POWER OF GREAT LINKS
We ALL get calls about "Linking" from or to your website. MANY of them are scams and most offer little or NO benefit to your website either in driving traffic to your business or for improving your search engine rankings.

Simply put - the ONLY links you should want are from websites that are related in some fashion to your business, and offer coverage within your business area or region.

For example - having MontanaElkHunting.com linked to your website based in Western North Carolina would serve as ZERO benefit in terms of traffic or helping to boost your rankings. Yet there are tens of thousands of companies emailing you asking about "Linking to each other" or reciprocal links. Don't fall prey to those kinds of inquiries or offers - no matter if they are FREE, because they can actually harm your website's rankings.

Reciprocal Links are NOT GOOD!

Here's where we will get some arguments from people who THINK they know search engine ranking and how it is affected by reciprocal links. MANY people still feel that they are beneficial. However Google says differently. Here is a link to some mind-numbing reading, but check it out.

"Links are still important, but we're talking about REAL links. As in the kind you get just because people like you and your company."

Here's the synopsis about reciprocal linking:

In the past, there were sites which didn't belong in the first 10 (or even the first 100 or 1000) that got there through reciprocal links and other methods to game the system.

Now, sites with a page or pages of links containing nothing but links to other site may not be penalized for those links, although there are a lot of those sites missing in certain sectors. But it's pretty clear, too, that no one is *gaining* anything from them, either.

After the Florida update, many sites or groups of sites whose only purpose was to interlink in order to gain page rank are gone. If they're not gone, they're so far in the rankings, they may as well be.

There is nothing wrong with "reciprocal links", per se, but they should be "real" links, with a purpose, contained within the content on a page for a reason. Likewise, if they're linking *back* to your site, there should be a reason for that link, too.
